Summer Reading 2025 FAQ
What is the Lincolnwood Library Summer Reading Program?
The Summer Reading Program is an annual initiative to promote enjoyment of reading and literacy to children, teens and adults. Each summer, Lincolnwood Library offers programs and events aligned with a Summer Reading theme, which this year is Level Up at Lincolnwood Library
Why is Summer Reading important?
Research shows that kids who don’t practice reading skills during the summer can lose gains in ability made the previous academic year. This is often called the "summer slide". Lincolnwood Library helps kids and teens counter the summer slide by offering access to books, programs, and presenters during the summer months. In fact, just 20 minutes of reading a day can increase a child's exposure to language, knowledge, and the world around them.
When does Summer Reading start and end?
Summer Reading begins Saturday, June 1st and ends on Wednesday, July 31st. You can log your reading in June and July, but will not be able to log reading after July 31.
Join us at the Library on Friday, June 13th from 4-6:30pm for our Summer Reading Kickoff Party.
How do I find out more information about Summer Reading at Lincolnwood Library?
Feel free to stop by any time to ask library staff about our Summer Reading Program. We will also update this website and our social media accounts often with new information and updates. Follow @lincolnwoodlibrary on Facebook, and Instagram. We also offer a weekly email newsletter with featured programming, reading recommendations, and more tips for summer fun. Sign up online to receive them.
Do I need to register for events?
To participate in our Summer Reading Program and earn prizes, you will need to register. You can register anytime beginning on June 1st. Most programs will also require registration. See our current newsletter or find a full list of events and registration details at lincolnwoodlibrary.org/events.
Will there be prizes?
It wouldn't be Summer Reading without fun, and unique prizes. All participants will receive a reading log upon registration starting June 1st. From there you will mark each day spent reading, in order to complete various goals. By meeting those goals, you earn prizes.
Both the Youth & Teen Services and Adult Services departments will have various incentives for participants. Please see the individual programs for more information.

Youth Summer Reading Program
Kids, pick up your reading logs to participate. Starting at Level 1, you'll track each day you read (or someone reads to you) by marking the log. After five days of reading, the level is complete and you are ready to check in at the library and claim your prize. Keep reading, track your progress, and claim completion prizes at each level.
Youth Summer Reading is for ages birth through high schoolers. Teens in Grades 9+ can choose to participate in the youth program or the adult program.

Adult Summer Reading
Adults (and Teens in Grades 9+) can pick up their reading logs starting June 1st. To level up your reading, every day you read, you'll mark off one spot on your reading log's map. Travel through the map and collect checkpoint prizes along the way. Stop by the library to claim your prizes.
