American Family Immigration History Center
The American Family Immigration History Center (AFIHC) contains archival information on more than 22 million passengers and members of ships' crews that entered the United States through Ellis Island and the Port of New York between 1892 and 1924. The user can access passenger records, original manifests, and ship information, often with a picture, giving the history and background of each ship that brought immigrants to the United States.

Ancestry.com is an online collection of family history resources, including a billion historical records, over 11 million family trees, and historical photos and stories. Featured collections include Jewish Family History, African American Family History, U.S. Immigration, and U.S. Military. Full access to resources requires a paid subscription, but a 14-day free trial subscription is available.

FamilySearch
FamilySearch, provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the largest genealogy organization in the world. Users may access resources online at no charge or through over 4,500 family history centers in 70 countries, including the Newberry Library (http://www.newberry.org/) and the Arlington Heights Memorial Library (http://www.ahml.info).

General Land Office (GLO) Records
The Bureau of Land Management' —s General Land Office (GLO) provides free access to records of the initial transfer of land titles from the Federal government to individuals, allowing the user to connect an individual with a specific location and time. Additional resources are listed for beginning genealogists. Image access if provided to more than three million Federal land titles.

The National Archives
The National Archives website primarily provides access to the Archives' catalog and database, research tools, articles, and links to genealogy resources. The website has very few records online, but exceptions include Spanish-American War compiled military service records for 1,235 "Rough Riders", casualty lists for the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and passenger lists into the Port of New York, 1846-1851, in addition to other interesting collections.

RootsWeb is a free genealogy community which makes use of mailing lists and message boards to help people research their family history. The site includes searchable indexes, records from Federal and a handful of state resources, and user-contributed databases.
